Mobility
55 Tampeños were killed last year on our streets — and over half were walkers and cyclists. I will work to eliminate pedestrian and cyclist injuries and fatalities by prioritizing funding for new crosswalks, traffic lights and other safety fixes on the most dangerous “Vision Zero” corridors in Tampa.
Environmental sustainability
I will work with the administration to make Tampa a leader in environmental sustainability by promoting the use of renewable energy, expanding green spaces and bike lanes, and implementing a comprehensive recycling program.
PUBLIC SAFETY
I will work to strengthen community-police relations and improve public safety by increasing funding for community policing programs, implementing de-escalation training for police officers, and creating a citizen review board to increase accountability.
Infrastructure improvements
Janet Cruz will prioritize infrastructure investments in Tampa's neighborhoods, including fixing potholes and repairing sidewalks, repairing bridges and seawalls, as well as upgrading stormwater and sewage systems to protect against flooding.
Affordable HOUSING
I will work to increase the supply of affordable homes in Tampa by increasing the affordable housing requirements for developers, making it easier to build more housing where it makes sense, and helping seniors and blue-collar workers stay in their homes.
SMART GROWTH
I will support the growth of Tampa’s neighborhoods by providing access to grants for small businesses and entrepreneurs, making zoning and land use rules easier for builders and neighborhoods to understand, and improving the quality of new, smart development in Tampa.
